Week 3 Football Quick Takes

Thoughts on each game from our reporter Christian Pedersen.

Thursday: Milken at San Diego Jewish Academy - Big potential win here for SDJA, they are good as always. San Pasqual Academy (0-1) at Coastal Academy (1-0) - Im looking to see if Coastal can keep up the strong start. Hilltop (1-1) at Chula Vista (0-2) - An early season big time rivalry game this one always brings out the bets in both teams, if the Hilltop O-line can establish early and control the tempo like in week 1 they should be the better team here. Mount Miguel (2-0) at Montgomery (1-1) - This would be huge for Mount Miguel, moving to 3-0 makes them a real threat for contender. Montgomery had some magic with the backup QB last week lets see if the kid has some more this week. San Marcos (1-1) at Steele Canyon (1-1) - San Marcos looks ahead of schedule on the rebuild but Major Givens is going to help Steele hold the ball and win this. San Ysidro (1-1) at Fallbrook (1-1) - Fallbrook beat San Ysidro twice last season so they carry the momentum in to this one but some youth started to shine at San Ysidro last week so this might be closer than last year. Olympian (1-1) at West Hills (1-1) - This is must win for both teams, Olympian needs every close game to be able to get in to the playoffs and not rely on help. La Jolla Country Day (2-0) at Classical Academy (2-2) - This could be the highest scoring game of the week, until I see otherwise I go with Country Day in these situations. Friday: Mater Dei Catholic (0-2) at Red Mountain - I stand by saying that Mater Dei is one of the best teams in SD and while the schedule doesn't let up this week maybe them getting out of the section is just what they need. Whittier Christian (0-1) at O'Farrell (0-2) - O'Farrell won this matchup last year, time to see if they can repeat that success. Southwest SD (2-0) at Kearny (2-0) - Never in a million years would I have had this one as a game between a pair of 2-0 teams, im extremely interested in the Kearny passing game. Canyon Hills (0-1) at Sweewater (1-1) - Sweewater made the adjustments last week to get the job done, expect more of the same this week. Maranatha Christian (0-2) at Clairemont (0-2) - Someone will walk away with a dub, only up from here. Palm Desert (1-0) at Central (2-0) - Central is starting to get top 10 votes and that means they are always worth finding a way to stream the game. Chandler at Cathedral Catholic (1-1) - Another really tough game for Cathedral that will be explained away at the end of the year by strength of schedule. Inglewood (2-0) at Carlsbad (1-0) - Carlsbad continuing the theme of playing heavy hitters from outside SD this week, they are the best team in SD until otherwise noted. Army-Navy (2-0) at Calipatria (0-2) - Army-Navy is about the be 3-0, could be best team in school history. St Bonaventure (1-1) at Lincoln (1-1) - Need to see something from the Lincoln offense this week. Cornerstone Christian (1-1) at Victory Christian (2-0) - VCA is rising to the top of their division early in the year. University City (1-1) at Brawley (2-0) - This game will be a huge gut check for both, a win here and Brawley might be borderline top 10, a UC win would go a long way to easing the sting of last week. Palo Verde Valley (1-1) at Kofa - Time to see what PVV is really capable of. Imperial at Cibola - Alway rooting for Imperial. Julian (0-1) at Borrego Springs (0-1) - Someone picks up a W this week. Warren (1-0) at Grossmont (0-2) - Grossmont needs to stop the slide or its time to panic. Mountain View at Helix (2-0) - Helix has beaten up on SD opponents the first two weeks so this will be a really fun test. Mission Hills (2-0) at Highland (1-1) - Mission Hills very sneaky good this year. La Costa Canyon (1-1) at San Clemente (2-0) - A win here and LCC is back in the Top 10 conversation, can they run the ball well enough? La Habra (0-2) at Eastlake (0-2) - Time for someone to step up and be a playmaker on the Eastlake offense. El Capitan (2-0) at La Jolla (1-1) - Very interesting battle, El Cap seems to be the real deal and La Jolla's results are muddled from the teams they have played being uneven in their early showings. Otay Ranch (0-2) at Mira Mesa (1-1) - Mira Mesa will continue to improve on offense and look for them to show out. Oceanside (0-2) at Granite Hills (1-1) - In title this would be a big win for Granite but its looking more and more like this just isn't a signature year for Oceanside. Castle Park (0-2) at Orange Glen (0-2) - Scrappy fight for a must win game for both teams. Bishop's (1-1) at Beverly Hills (0-1) - Need to see more from Bishop's to know who they are. Point Loma (1-1) at Valhalla (0-2) - This isn't a game that should be on the schedule but I guess will help Valhalla strength of schedule wise. Ramona (2-0) at Poway (2-0) - Game of the Week? Listen to the podcast for more. Rancho Buena Vista (2-0) at Vista (0-2) - Low key RBV is starting to string together wins in this rivalry and I think they retain control this year too. Del Norte (2-0) at San Pasqual (2-0) - This will be a high scoring affair and fun to watch. Santa Fe Christian (1-1) at Francis Parker (1-1) - Parker needs this a little more than SFC does but they both look good so far so it should be a fun battle. Coronado (1-1) at Santana (0-2) - Prime opportunity for Coronado to pick up a must win if they want to be elite type win. Patrick Henry (0-1) at Scripps Ranch (0-2) - Scripps continues to search for new identity, Henry will be tough. Bonita Vista (0-1) at Sequoia (1-0) - Bonita can still be a threat this year. Escondido Charter (2-0) at Tri-City Christian (0-2) - Escondido Charter needs to get some respect and will continue their impressive start to the year. Valley Center (1-1) at Mount Carmel (1-1) - Evenly matched, history favors Mt Carmel and so do we. Rancho Bernardo (0-2) at Torrey Pines (0-2) - Surprising pair of 0-2 teams but its time to see what Torrey looks like against a San Diego team. Pinacle at El Camino (2-0) - El Camino has their first true test of the year.

El Cajon Valley (1-1) at Vincent Memorial (2-0) - Kal-El Gordon Gordon has gone insane with 7 rushing TDs already this year, lookout for him to break double digits this week. Saturday: Desert Vista at Madison (2-0) - If Madison moves to 3-0 they are in the open division conversation. Saint Margarets (0-2) at Christian (1-1) - Christian bounced back in impressive fashion last week, time to see if they can maintain that style of play. Westview (0-2) at Escondido (1-1) - Westview has a tough scheduels o they need every win they can get. Mar Vista (0-2) at Morse (1-1) - Probably going to see a lot of great running plays in this one. San Diego (1-1) at Mission Bay (2-0) - Best game of the Saturday slate.
